Off-site news stories:
Here's an analysis of how providers and patients will be treated
per the New Directions Manual:
This article from the Mental Health Association from Palm Beach
has suggestions for what patients and consumers can do today.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida unilaterally terminated
prior contracts with almost all mental health providers effective
Nov 30, 2011. Effective Dec 1. Federal BCBS, Publix,
BCBS of FL employee, and out of State BCBS patients
will need to pay for visits at time of service. We will provide
billing information to file your own insurance. New BCBS patients
first seen on or after Dec. 1, 2011 will need to pay at time
of service. In most cases other than the above, we will file
for patients established before 11/30/11 until Feb 28, 2011
(what we understand is a grace period).
As of Jan 1, 2012 BCBS representative have finally admitted
they have told providers who did not sign with New Directions
and their patients authorizations would be required for continued
care and in-plan benefits. They admitted claims were processed
wrongly and now will be "reprocessed". Time will tell if they
issue some kind of written apology for the letters that sent out wrong
information.
