Our psychological assessment approach to Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD, ADD) is tailored to individual needs of the patient and to consider common co-existing disorders, and issues such as learning disability, depression, and social and motor skill difficulties.
Psychological, educational and neuropsychological testing may involve assessment of general ability by an IQ test, parent and/or teacher ratings, measurement of visual and auditory attention and learning, and other neurodevelopmental functions associated with planning, impulse control, and cognitive flexibility.
Specific Learning Disabilities often co-occur or complicate the diagnosis and treatment. It is important to note that none of the symptoms of ADHD are unique to the disorder (i.e. pathognomic). Therefore, to determine if symptoms are due to other disorders or are unusual for age or ability, formal and comprehensive assessment is important to avoid over-diagnois, misdiagnosis, or ignoring co-existing conditions which must also be addressed or treated to for a successful outcome.
Assessment is available from simple screening to comprehensive assessment of visual and auditory processing, learning, reading, writing, arithmetic, and language ability. Therapy is provided through individual therapy, groups and support and education are available through the local chapter of Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder.
We are proud to have founded the local chapter of CHADD (CHADD of Alachua County). We have provided educational seminars to groups, teachers, and other interested parties. Check our Articles and Archives for articles about child and adolescent issues.

Parent Training: We have many years of offering a 10-12 session structured program based on developments by Russell Barkley for children with attention & oppositional behavior. It is designed to help improve parent-child relationships, improve child self-esteem, & improve child compliance. Parent groups start throughout the year.
Adult ADHD evaluation and testing is also offered for college students or others who may need testing accommodations for school such as extra time to complete tests or other educational accommodations. Formal testing, usually within two years of the request is usually required by colleges and universities as well as national testing boards such as Law School entrance examinations, GRE's, Medical School entrance examinations, etc. Those seeking such evaluations should also bring supporting documentation of prior treatment, school accomodations and/or other school records.
Evaluations assess for ADHD as well as Learning Disabilities which, if mild in a bright student, may not become readily apparent until the increased demands of middle school, high school, or more advanced education.
