Neuropsychology Fellow

Shannon Caramiello, Psy.D. earned her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Florida School of Professional Psychology (at Argosy University) in Tampa, FL. She completed an APA-approved predoctoral internship with an emphasis on neuropsychological training at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, FL.

Dr. Caramiello has experience in the neuropsychological assessment of children, adolescents, and adults. Her clinical experiences include the intersection of medical diagnoses with brain dysfunction, such as stroke, TBI, and dementia. She has worked with children and families affected by diagnoses of cancer, genetic disorders, and developmental difficulties related to physical illness. Dr. Caramiello also has experience in providing evaluations for learning disability for children, adolescents, and adults.


Dr. Caramiello also has experience providing individual and group therapy to adults in the veteran affairs system, college counseling centers, and private practice settings. She has experience with a large spectrum of psychological difficulties, including adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse and personality disorders. She incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to help clients become empowered with active involvement in the process of change. She also utilizes Motivational Interviewing (MI) strategies when intervening with a patient’s maladaptive behavioral patterns. Finally, she approaches all her cases from a systemic and multicultural framework to ensure she conceptualize her clients’ psychological functioning within their environment and a larger sociocultural context.

 During her graduate and internship training, Dr. Caramiello specialized in working with LGBTQ clients. She has provided individual and group therapy to transgender teens, adults, and veterans. She completed a 10-monthSpecialty Care Access Network-Extension for Community Health Outcomes (SCAN-ECHO) training on serving transgender veterans.

Dr. Caramiello has presented at multiple local, state, and national conferences, including the American Psychological Association (APA) Conventions in Hawaii, Washington, D.C., and Toronto, CA, the Florida Psychological Association, and the Florida School of Professional Psychology’s Annual Diversity Conference.





She is currently a board member of a nonprofit specializing in therapy and assessment services for LGBTQ youth called the Center for Psychological Growth and the Early Career Psychologist Chair member for the Bay Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association.
