Psychologists specialize in cognitive-behavioral, behavioral, psychodynamic, supportive and other psychological approaches to treatment.  Many combine approaches or use a specific approach matched to a specific problem.  Some psychologists such as child psychologists specialize with conditions of certain age groups.  Psychologists may also specialize in health psychology, medical psychology, neuropsychology, addictions or other specialty areas.

Clinical psychologists tend to focus more on psychiatric issues such as depression and other mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorder, eating disorders and conditions which may interefere with normal functioning.

Good psychological and neuropsychological assessment is the first step in good treatment.  We will often work with your physician, neurologist or psychiatrist when medication is part of the treatment plan.  Many conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and ADHD are best treated by a multi-modal approach in terms of psychotherapy and medication, and psychotherapy is sometimes as effective if not more effective for other conditions or less severe difficulties.  In some cases such as panic disorder, anxiety disorderssleep disorders, or phobias, psychotherapy can assist people become less reliant on medication or eventually discontinue medication.

Our psychologists are skilled in applying a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches such as psychodynamic, interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, and eclectic to a variety of adjustment and mental health problems. Individual, family, marital, and group approaches are used as appropriate.  Treatment services are available for a variety of difficulties such as adjustment problems, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, adjusting to health issues, anxiety, ADHD, alcohol and drug problems, marital and family difficulties.   Our experienced staff have a great deal of experience working with a variety of different types of patients and conditions.  Our front office staff can often assist in matching you with a therapist.  Referrals are provided when appropriate.

Many of our psychologists have lived and practiced in the Gainesville and Ocala Florida areas for ten to more than twenty years.  We take pride in serving our community and having established relationships with many community physicians, agencies, hospitals and employers.  We serve City of Gainesville employees through our employee assistance program
